Little Norway

A stave church pavilion ā€“ the Norwegian contribution to the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893 – has returned to Norway after 123 years of residence in the United States. The church is now stored in the most potent of its two states – in fragments of materials and memory. The latent in the degraded pile of building components, which will occur in a new era, has been our starting point for presenting the pavilion’s journey ‘heimat’ at Oslo’s Architecture Triennale 2016. Before the stave church continues its journey to Orkdal, where it is to be constructed yet again, it is once more showed inside the exhibition space. This time in fragments.
The project is a collaboration between Bureau Detours, Triptykon, Gamle3Hus and the volunteers in Orkdahl.
