Where are the girls at in the urban spaces? New danish parks are often designed for specific male dominated activities such as parkour and skating, leaving the girls to watch the activities or go shop in the malls. It is a rude generalization, but still there is a big need to research what girls think of the public spaces and learn what we can do to create more girl-friendly public spaces.
In close cooperation with teenage girls in Hillerød, Bureau Detours designed and built a handcart named The Wave. The Wave is designed for the girls need to have a mobile sitting area that can be moved by hand to both quiet surroundings or festive events. In the cart there is space for storing cushions, blankets, umbrellas and sound system.
The project is part of a regional project with Kulturmetropol Øresund, and seven other municipalities, here Hillerød Municipality.
