USE FLOTSAM is a sculpture, a design and a research project. The sculpture part is a container that has “drifted” onto the beach of Aarhus. The design part is a series of shovel chairs, which are very site specific because they only fit into sand.

The research part is about how people use stuff that drifts onto beaches. In Denmark it’s illegal to use or take flotsam – you have to inform the government if you find stuff on the beach. Our theory was that people instinctively would use the flotsam to experiment with public space on the beach.
